This week has been a busy week in the sporting world. Rugby union rugby world cup preparation is well underway, whilst in the rugby league teams such as Whitehaven rugby are on the way up the table. Cricket sees some impressive under 19's international action from all sides - even if the games aren't at Lords Cricket grounds! In the golfing field ladies golf watches Lorena Ochoa with bated breath, whilst in tennis the finals are underway in the Kremlin cup, showcasing some serious talent - there may not be a new Lew Hoad just yet, but the bar is being raised! |
To star this weeks round up, lets talk about the Rugby union. With the rugby union world cup only a couple of years away, team are starting to go hell for leather to up their game and secure their place in the finals. Meanwhile, the rugby union Heineken cup is deeply underway, seeing Bath lose out by just a couple of points to Stade Francais whilst Leeds brought home a convincing victory against Overmach Parma. Whilst Leeds Sunday game was convincing, however, the real points shocker was Newcastle slamming in at 45-3 against Albi.
In rugby league, the action is just as varied. The England team are gearing up nicely for a positive start to the Four Nations in Friday’s match against France, where a win would be much appreciated by all involved! Even better, the rugby league team have quite a chance of winning, and are aiming to go into battle with heads held high. Rugby league Whitehaven rugby and their dream of approaching the super league are battling up the tables, although Barrow are proud leaders in the current line up. |

This seasons cricket is gearing up for some impressive under 19s international action – it may not be a lords cricket ground, but these matches are set to be exciting! Bangladesh beat England by one scant run, but it seems likely that the coming weeks will see some more dramatic matches and wins. Internationally, cricket this week has seen Zimbabwe beat Kenya by 142 runs, whilst Australia are still chuffed over their win over New Zealand. With the calibre of test matches and one day internationals that are planned, the next few weeks should be vital viewing for cricket fans.
This week in the golfing world sees plenty of tournaments getting fully underway. At the end of this week European golf saw Garcia of Spain leading the table, whilst The US PGA Frys.com open sees England doing slightly better with G Owen in 5th. In more golf, ladies golf is always getting more and more exciting, with both well-known and brand new talent moving up the scoreboards. In the US LPGA touch Ochoa is still looking set to win, although Scottish Moodie is putting up a valiant effort and current positioning 4th. |

Finally onto a quick round up of the tennis. The tennis world is very busy this week, what with the Kremlin cup being played alongside the Stockholm and Luxembourg opens. Consequently the sport isn’t short of its news stories, with Kin Clijsters suffering her first loss since the US Open. Injuries are rife, however, with Zvonareva struggling with repeated knee issues. Let’s hope we don’t have another version of injury plagued Lew Hoad on our hands!
