Speedway: Elite side make bid for Glasgow Tigers ace Josh Grajczonek

GLASGOW TIGERS are mulling over a five-figure bid for track star Josh Grajczonek.

The Premier League champions received the offer, in the region of £10,000, from an Elite League club late last week.

However the Glaswegian understands bosses at the Ashfield side are holding out for closer to £15,000 as they attempt to reduce a £30,000 debt from track upgrade work carried out last year.

Australian race ace Grajcoznek, 22, was tipped to make a big money move in the winter after four years with Glasgow.

But his Elite League hopes were put on hold after he suffered a horrendous thigh break against Plymouth last May.

After 10 months on the sidelines, he returned to Premier League action with the Tigers this season and is currently third top scorer for Stewart Dickson's side.

Meanwhile, Dickson has paid tribute to 18-year-old new boy Mason Campton after the Aussie secured his first ever paid maximum in British speedway as Glasgow beat Sheffield Tigers on Sunday.

Campton earned 12 points from four races, starting in the very first heat as he blitzed home ahead of skipper Joe Screen in 59.5 seconds.

It got Glasgow off to a perfect start and the re-energised Tigers never looked back with Scotland's number one James Grieves also recording a superb maximum.

Dickson said: "I was confident we would win but the manner in which we did was very pleasing.

"Mason was superb and to get a maximum in just his fifth ride at Ashfield shows what class the boy has.

"It was the perfect build-up for this weekend's double header with Edinburgh."

Glasgow travel to Armadale to take on the Monarchs on Friday night and the return takes place at Ashfield on Sunday afternoon at 4pm.
