Speedway: Glasgow Tigers jump into second place with double triumph over Sheffield

Glasgow Tigers

BACK-TO-BACK wins against Sheffield catapulted Glasgow Tigers into second place in the Premier Trophy standings over the past four days.

Following their heroics in South Yorkshire on Thursday night, their first win at Owlerton Stadium in 15 years, it was the turn of the Tigers to host their southern namesakes at Ashfield on Sunday as both teams renewed their battle for Premier Trophy points.

True to form it was the home side who got off to a rather sluggish start and quickly found themselves six points behind after just five heats, thus once again having to produce a battling performance to get back into contention.

A series of four successive heat advantages including his first ever Glasgow race win for Dane Peter Juul took the home side into the lead at 29-25.

The Tigers big-two of Shane Parker and James Grieves, pictured, were again in imperious form and it was the home team who continued on the ascendency with Mitchell Davey, Josh Grajzconek and debutant Lee Smart each providing valuable back-up to take Glasgow across the winning line at 52-38.

The home and away wins over Sheffield have propelled the A-Plant Tigers into second place in their Premier Trophy Northern Qualifying section with just two final meetings, home and away to rivals and group leaders Edinburgh still to come in a fortnights time.

A-Plant Glasgow Tigers scorers: Grieves 15, Parker 13, Grajczonek 11, Davey 8, Juul 4, Smart 1

The Tigers head to Somerset on Friday to compete in the 1st leg of the Knock-Out Cup with the powerful Rebels side travelling to Ashfield on Sunday (4pm) for the return leg to see if the Tigers can reach the quarter final stage.
