Scottish Communities League Cup: Queen's Park can shock St Johnstone, insists Speirs

Gardner Speirs

QUEEN'S PARK boss Gardner Speirs has vowed to attack SPL St Johnstone as his third division leaders go in search of more League Cup glory.

The Spiders shocked top tier Dundee at Hampden in the last round but are huge underdogs going into tonight's tie at McDiarmid Park.

However, Speirs has every faith in his young guns giving Steve Lomas' side a run for their money.

Both sides are in good form - Queens hitting top spot on Saturday after a resounding 4-0 win at rivals Elgin City while St Johnstone have won their last two SPL matches - inflicting Celtic's first league defeat of the season before ending Ross County's mammoth 40-game unbeaten league run on Saturday.

And Speirs said: “St Johnstone are packed with good players and played in Europe this season. That says everything about how good they are.

“But we have to go there and be positive and try to play our game. It’s a cup-tie and if you get the breaks, as we did against Dundee, anything can happen.”

Ian Watt and James Brough will hand the Hampden men a huge boost by returning for tonight's clash while Saints will be without suspended striker Rowan Vine.
