Speedway: Joe Screen calls on Glasgow Tigers to make late pitch for play-off spot

CAPTAIN Joe Screen has warned his Glasgow Tigers team mates to keep their feet firmly on the ground after a run of three consecutive victories - or watch the play-off hopes go up in smoke.

The on-form side face perhaps their toughest test of the season so far with a visit of the Somerset Rebels on Sunday afternoon. 

The Rebels are considered by many to be the favourites for the title but the Tigers are not prepared to give up on their trophy just yet.

A stunning away win at Sheffield reignited hope that the side could be set for a dramatic late charge back into the title reckoning.

Screen, pictured right, played his part in the Sheffield win with four paid wins on the trot but knows that the pressure is heaped on the Tigers ahead of the visit of the title favourites.

And he said: "Nobody was considering us as a potential play-off side but that win at Sheffield has given us no more than a sniff at it and if we can win a couple more away meetings then we do have a chance. 

"However that will count for nothing if we do not win all our home fixtures and the remaining ones that we have all have a tough look about them. 

"Somerset are led by Jason Doyle and he scored a maximum while guesting against us a couple of weeks ago and there really is no weak link in their team. We will have to be at our best and all we can do is race as best as we can and hope that it will be good enough for the three points.

"One thing I am pleased about is that the weather forecast at this stage is a good one and that should mean we have a well prepared track, and given the quality of both sides there is no doubt that the quality of racing should be top drawer. 

"We now have a reason to be optimistic. The team changes have made this a better side and it is vital that all areas can take full advantage. 

"We do have one or two issues to overcome, I certainly have had some engine misfortunes in recent weeks, and Josh blew his best motor earlier in the week too, so hopefully we will all overcome these issues and give our support plenty to get excited about this weekend."
   
Czech ace Filip Sitera returns for Glasgow ahead of the visit of the Rebels - a match which will see Glasgow new boy Charles Wright in opposition to his big brother James.
