Fiji flying machine Nikola Matawalu can add spark to Glasgow Warriors, says Gregor Townsend

GLASGOW WARRIORS head coach Gregor Townsend believes the capture of Fijian international Nikola Matawalu will bring a touch of magic to his side.

The 23-year-old scrum-half is poised to join the ranks at Scotstoun Stadium and the lightning quick number nine, who has played six times for his country, arrives from Navy Rugby Club in Suva, subject to a work permit and medical.

Townsend said: “Niko is a really exciting signing. He’s quick, strong and is one of those players who can do something a bit different, the unexpected. He’ll provide some serious competition in the back line.”

Matawalu said: “Obviously it’s going to be a massive change from playing in the southern hemisphere but I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”
