Speedway: Away form must improve, says Glasgow Tigers boss

GLASGOW TIGERS boss Alan Dick has told his stuttering stars to get over their travel sickness or kiss goodbye to their Premier League title.

The reigning champions' away day blues continued as they suffered their ninth straight away defeat in all competitions on Monday evening when they were thumped 62-31 by Newcastle Diamonds.

It came just 24 hours after the Geordies had held Dick's men 45-45 at Ashfield.

The single point from the two meetings leaves Glasgow loitering in 10th place in the table with just four points from five league matches so far.

And Dick warned: "The away form must pick up especially as we dropped more points at home on Sunday.

"We are still aiming to be in the top six come the end of the season and that would be enough to secure a play-off spot but we are a bit off that just now.

"Newcastle was always going to be a tough one away from home as they are basically a bit like we were last season when we went all year without losing at home.

"They proved their credentials as one of the favourites for the title but we really need to get our act in order. We have to address the balance by picking up points away from home.

"And there are one or two fixtures coming up where we think we can do that."

This Sunday Workington Comets - many people's tips to take the Premier League crown off Glasgow - visit Ashfield.

Adding spice to the occasion the Comets have called upon the services of Robert Ksiezak - recently dumped by Glasgow - with youngster Kyle Howarth missing due to injury. 

Glasgow are looking to avenge the League Cup defeat to Workington two months ago and co-Promoter Stewart Dickson knows his troops will need to up their game in order to upset the odds.

He said: "I know that if we are to win this meeting we are going to have to produce something very special but I still believe we are capable of that. 

"To me the Comets look like the best team in the league and are going to take some stopping but I believe there is enough about us to take a win.

"We are racing pretty well at home in patches but perhaps not consistent enough throughout a meeting, with a few crucial points being squandered and that we have to sort out and quick.

"I am glad we are at full strength for this one as we all need to work as pairs when we are racing in order to get heat advantages rather than just the occasional heat win, so that is our rallying cry for this week, make sure we win the battles for the minor places in the races too.

"I see that the Comets have cleverly chosen Robert Ksiezak as a guest and he will certainly be keen to show us a thing or two so that adds to the excitement for me, but I have faith in Jayden and Mason and feel that they can take care of the points at reserve."
