Glasgow Warriors boss Sean Lineen excited by arrival of Ospreys star Rory Pitman

SEAN LINEEN insists the arrival of Rory Pitman on a short-term loan will trigger a back row battle for places next season.

The Glasgow Warriors head coach has secured the 21-year-old on a six-month deal from Ospreys and admits he will offer more options when the squad returns for pre-season training on June 6.

Pitman's arrival brings the number of confirmed new faces on show in a revamped Warriors to six as they continue their recruitment drive.

Props Michael Cusack and Gordon Reid, stand-off Scott Wight, centre Troy Nathan and wing Tommy Seymour have all signed for the new campaign.

But Lineen reckons the capture of Pitman will bring a welcome selection headache.

He said: "We're excited about adding Rory to the mix because he has a lot to offer and he is determined to hit the ground running.

"He's a  big, ball-carrying back-rower and I'm delighted to have another talented player to add to our options in that area.

"The competition for places is pretty fierce, but it's good to be adding to our strength in depth."
