Stuntman Danny gives pupils tips on safe cycling

STUNT rider Danny MacAskill this week backed a campaign to make it safer for pupils cycling to school.

The Cycling Scotland initiative comes as children across Glasgow gear up to make the most of the summer weather on their bikes.

It will centre around schools promoting "Cycle Friendly Zones" where drivers are asked to give child cyclists as much space as possible so they can make an easy and safe journey to their class.

To promote the scheme, the Riderz stunt team visited St Anne's Primary School and Glasgow Gaelic School.

Cycling Scotland chief executive Ian Aitken said: "Cycling is one of the best forms of exercise. With an estimated half of school children getting less than their recommended activity levels a day, cycling to school is an ideal way of reducing this figure and increasing children's exercise routine.

"Getting children out in the fresh air also means they will arrive at school more alert and eager to learn.

"Research shows that children want to cycle to school so we hope by making sure drivers look out for them, more children in Glasgow will get on their bikes and cycle to school."
