Govan High school pupils quiz BAFTA stars on the red carpet

BAFTA

SCHOOL pupils from Glasgow rubbed shoulders with the stars at the Scottish BAFTAS on Sunday.

Alison Palmer and Scot Morrison, both from Govan High School, were at the red carpet event to interview a host of celebrities, including Lorraine Kelly, Martin Compston and Jon Snow.

They were given the opportunity to attend the night - which saw comedy In The Loop scoop three of the prizes on offer - through a free initiative in schools called Filmclub, a scheme backed by the likes of Ewan McGregor and Emma Thompson.

And their insight into the filmstar lifestyle went down well with the twostudents. Alison, 17, said: "What I thought was really cool was howdown to earth everyone we interviewed was.

"My favourite was Lorraine Kelly. She is such a nice person and I got a hug, which I was very pleased about.

"I'm really happy I joined Filmclub as Iwould have never had an opportunity like this and it has opened my eyesto possible careers in the film industry I might not have consideredbefore joining."

Scot, 14, added: "I greatly appreciated the opportunity to go the Scottish BAFTAs, it was an incredibly rewarding experience and I could not believe I was there.

"As I want to go into film and TV this was a brilliant experience, and I gained some insightful wisdom from all the interviews. It is truly a night I will never forget."

Filmclub was founded by Scottish educationalist Lindsay Mackie and director Beeban Kidron in 2008.

So far, just 13 Scottish schools are involved in the scheme, but it is hoped they can secure funding to roll it out across the country.
