RECORD-BREAKING cyclist Mark Beaumont joined Glasgow schoolkids to promote a new safety campaign yesterday.
As children get ready to take their bikes to school over the summer months, Mark visited St Bernard’s PS, near Nitshill, to launch the “Give Me Cycle Space” initiative.
It is designed to break down the barrier that prevents many kids from riding their bikes to school – their parents’ fear of busy roads – by making motorists more aware of young cyclists. Cycling Scotland are co-ordinating the scheme.
Mark – who broke the round-the-world record when he cycled 18,296 miles through 20 countries – said: “I’m fully behind the campaign because I believe that giving parents the confidence to allow their children to cycle on the roads is essential.
“I’m confident the campaign will encourage drivers to give bikes plenty of room on the road.”
Mark was joined at St Bernard’s by stunt cycle team Riderz.
