Scottish Green Party Co-Convenor Patrick Harvie

SCOTTISH Green Party leader Patrick Harvie believes tomorrow’s vote will result in the most effective council yet.
Labour’s perceived weakening and a credible SNP challenge means it’s likely it will not be dominated by one group.
Patrick believes all parties will be forced to work more closely together, resulting in more accountable government that responds better to local desires.
He said: “The system will result in a local government where decisions are not stitched up, where things won’t happen behind closed doors.
“It would make everybody more accountable and give power not just to smaller parties but to individual councillors.”
Harvie, below, is hopeful that the Greens can add to their current total of five councillors.
The more councillors they have, the more likely they are to act as king-makers if there is no clear Labour nor SNP majority, a not improbable scenario.
The Greens would then be in a better position to pursue their manifesto promises, which include promoting local energy companies who could push renewable energy at a grass-roots level.
