Valentine pizza
Heart-shaped lover's special for Valentine's Day
THE Dean Martin song goes: "When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amore".
But Glaswegian restaurateur Domenico Crolla is going a little bit further this Valentine's Day by creating a heart-shaped pizza filled with aphrodisiac toppings for his loved-up customers.
Visitors to Bella Napoli in Shawlands are guaranteed a slice of seduction when they tuck into the venue's lovers' special - topped with artichokes, gold leaf and crushed pearls. Crushed pearls might seem like an inedible and odd topping but they were once used by Cleopatra herself, who dissolved them in wine to seduce her suitors.
Award-winning pizza specialist Domenico said: "Valentine's is always a popular time to treat your loved one to a special meal, somewhere romantic.
"This year we decided to do something different and thought a heart-shaped pizza with its natural aphrodisiac qualities would appeal to Valentine's diners.
"We have seen a lot of romances starting over a slice of pizza and expect this year to see even more.
"People don't always associate simple pizza toppings such as cheese and tomato with the food of love, but as the saying goes, the proof of the pudding is always in the eating."
