Rockettes sizzle in charity calendar

Scottish Rockettes

IT'S January and that can mean only one thing. No, not Barak Obama's inauguration, silly. The release of the Scottish Rockettes' saucy swimwear calendar.

And don't worry guys of Glasgow, if your girlfriend or wife finds it pinned up in your kitchen or bedroom you can tell her you bought it to help a good cause.

The lovely ladies from the Rockettes, the official dance team of the Scottish Rocks, have toned up and dressed down for twelve hot shots in this year's calendar.

Costing just s6, proceeds from this year's must-have calendar will go to helping CHAS and Cash For Kids.

Carole Anne Deeney, 29, squad manager and Miss July, said: "The swimwear calendar is really important to the girls and we all look forward to it.

"All of the girls work hard to get in shape and to look good for the calendar, it's a big deal.

"On the day of the shoot we were all up at the crack of dawn preening ourselves, slapping the fake tan on and trying to look our best."

And the hard work always pays off as the 2008 calendar shifted more than 1000 copies and raked in around s6000 for CHAS and Cash For Kids.

Carole Anne, a student loans project manager, from the city centre, said: "We love doing the calendar shoot and it makes it so much more fun knowing that the proceeds are going to a good cause.

"We are all happy to do our bit for charity and CHAS and Cash For Kids both do great work."

She added: "It must be hard work for the poor photographer having to look after the Rockettes for individual shots as well as the group photo."

Yes, the tough task of photographing the Rockettes calendar falls each year to Daily Record and sometime Glaswegian staff photographer Paul Chappells.

He said: "The photoshoot takes place in the studio in the Daily Record building. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.

"No, all kidding aside. It is a long day, but the girls make it fun and, at the end of the day, the calendar also helps good, Scottish causes like CHAS and Cash For Kids.

"We just hope it's as popular as last year's calendar."

The calendar is available from the Rockettes website at: www.scottishrockettes.com, or at the Kelvin Hall, where the Rocks play their games.
