A cake in honour of Charlie

GLASGOW celebrates the 140th birthday of architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh on Saturday with a mouth-watering design competition.

To mark the occasion, youngsters from Notre Dame High School and Glasgow Metropolitan College are in competition to design a birthday cake in his honour.

The winning cakes will be selected at 2pm on Saturday by a team of judges comprising: Anne Mulhern MBE from The Willow Tea Rooms, Ian Dunsmore, Deacon Convenor of Trades House and his wife Eileen, and Eveleen Greer from Top Tier Designer Cakes.

Winners will receive a prize and a work placement at the Willow Tea Rooms and at the new catering facility at Scotland Street School - 'Mac's'.

All of the cakes will be on display in Scotland Street School, another of Mackintosh's stunning buildings, from Saturday until Wednesday.

Admission tickets and free birthday cake will also be on offer at many of the venues. Visit www.crmsociety.com for further details.
