Glasgow City celebrate perfect title win with victory over Celtic

Glasgow City

GLASGOW CITY were crowned SWPL title winners last weekend as the silverware continues to arrive in a memorable campaign.

In a history-making season which includes a UEFA Champions League last 16 place already secured, Eddie Wolecki Black's side lifted the trophy after a 3-1 win over Celtic.

City coach Black will now focus on a Scottish Cup semi-final against the Hoops but still had time to pay tribute to his side.

He said: "I want to congratulate all players and staff on another title. Celtic obviously set up a game plan to frustrate us with five at the back, which forced us to find solutions.

"In the first half we struggled.

"However, after the break, we utilised the ball far better and got into areas that allowed us to create chances.

"We now look forward to Wednesday's semi-final against the same opponents."

City's dominant display eventually got them the reward they were after when a long period of passing gave space to Jo Love, who beat her marker and hit a shot towards goal which was turned in by Danica Dalziel.

The Glasgow side made it 2-0 soon after thanks to a cracker from Emma Mitchell.

She picked the ball up from 25 yards and unleashed an unstoppable drive high into the back of the net.

And she doubled her tally with a lovely curling free-kick.

Celtic pulled a consolation back after Love bundled over Suzanne Grant in the box.

Chloe Craig slotted the penalty home but City held on easily .
