LAURA MONTGOMERY and Kat Lindner, pictured, are renown for their explosive displays on the pitch but a big bang in Iceland has kept the Glasgow City duo away from the action.
While City have been cementing their place at the top of the Premier League, the pair have been stuck in Germany as a two-day break turned into a fortnight thanks to a volcano explosion in Iceland grounding flights across Europe.
Both managed to return to Glasgow last Monday but with City in red-hot form after thrashing Dundee United 11-0, the duo admit they have a fight on their hands to win their places back.
Montgomery said: "We both had a couple of days free from work so we popped over and then chaos hit all the airlines when that volcano erupted. We found out 12 hours before our return that we might be staying longer than planned - I think our flight was cancelled.
"Thankfully we were staying with Kat's family but it did allow us to see how the women's game is run in the strongest nation in the sport.
"We took in a Bundesliga match between Frankfurt and Potsdam - the latter are in the Champions League final - and there was a 4,000 plus crowd.
"Much bigger than some of the men's attendances back in Scotland.
"We know we've a fight to win back our places but that's only right as the girls have done great while we've been away."
