Queen's Park boss Gardner Speirs insists side can save their play-off hopes against Stranraer

GARDNER SPEIRS has warned his Queen's Park side their play-off dream will die if they don't drastically improve on Wednesday's first leg showing.

The Spiders lost 3-1 to Stranraer at Stair Park, despite beating Keith Knox's side four times in the league this season.

Speirs acknowledged that his side were well beaten and said: "Wednesday was a huge disappointment and we never performed to our potential.

"But we're still in the competition and have 90 minutes to recover from what was a bad night."

Queen's have been in the play-offs for each of the past three seasons but have faltered on each occasion at the semi-final stage, which made Wednesday night all the more disappointing.

However, they will be boosted by the return of influential midfielder Martin McBride for tomorrow's second leg at Hampden. David Anderson, will not recover in time from a hamstring injury though.

Speirs remains in a buoyant mood and said: "There is a real desire in this camp to show that we are capable of playing far better than we did at Stair Park.

"The players know they are good enough to turn the situation round if they all perform to the best of their abilities."

If Queens go through they will play either Elgin City or Albion Rovers in the two-legged final.

That tie currently stands at 1-0 to Elgin with the second leg taking place at Cliftonhill tomorrow.
