QUEEN'S PARK boss Gardner Speirs could be about to pull off a masterstroke by persuading ex-Aberdeen midfielder Fergus Tiernan to come out of retirement.
Tiernan, 27, hung up his boots last season while at Dumbarton after he started a new job as a fireman.
But now the former Pittodrie star, who also had a spell at Ross County, looks set to add a little polish to the Queen's Park midfield after being persuaded to join the Spiders for pre-season.
Boss Speirs knows the player well from his time as assistant manager at Aberdeen.
And he is keeping his fingers crossed Dumbarton-based Tiernan will agree to sign on for the forthcoming third division campaign.
Speirs said: "It is too early to say if he will join our squad for next season but I would be pleased if he did. It is no secret we are short of experience and Fergus would provide that.
"I will keep checking in with him between now and the start of the season and he will check with his employers what his options are, but I would be delighted to have his passing ability in our armoury next season."
