Ayr United 1 Queen's Park 1

Zander Cowie

NIGERIAN debutant Steven Odenewo found the net as 10-man Queen's recovered from their Ayr drubbing just four days earlier to record a fine point.

The draw moves Ayr to the top of the table but it was the resilience of Gardner Speirs' Spiders which was most impressive on a cold night at Somerset.

In particular, keeper Zander Cowie, pictured, was a hero as he repaid the manager's faith in him with a string of top drawer saves in both halves.

Odenewo made it a fairytale debut when he ran on to a long ball and rounded keeper Stephen Grindlay to fire into an empty net after 34 minutes.

Ayr had to wait until the 52nd minute to equalise when Ryan Borris bundled home a cross from Ryan Stevenson.

And Queen's looked to be in serious trouble 15 minutes later when James Brough was sent packing for a second yellow.

Ayr piled on the pressure and subs David Gormley and Alex Williams were added to the attack but somehow Queen's managed to hold out in the face of incessant pressure.

Cowie was a huge hero and pulled off super late saves to deny Mark Roberts and Dean Keenan.
