Division Three: Annan Athletic 1 Queen's Park 2

Gardner Speirs

QUEEN'S PARK swept to their third straight victory thanks, in no small part, to senior stopper Andy Millen.

The 45-year-old enjoyed a winning debut after answering an SOS from Spiders boss Gardner Speirs at the weekend.

Despite pulling on his playing boots for the first time in almost three years, Millen turned back the clock to guide the youthful Queen's rearguard through a tough 90 minutes at Galabank.

A delighted Speirs said afterwards: "Andy cruised it. He also helped his team-mates through the game."

Queen's started well and forced a penalty in nine minutes when Athletic skipper Kevin Neilson bundled over Iain Watt.

Martin McBride stepped up but watched in horror as Jonny Jamieson blocked his effort from 12 yards.

That looked to be a costly miss when Steven Sloan fired Annan ahead nine minutes into the second half.

But Queen's resilience came to the fore when they struck twice in two minutes just after the hour mark.

Michael Daly levelled matters on 67 minutes when he tapped in from close range and David Murray notched the winner with an equally simple tap in just moments later.
