QUEEN'S PARK hotshot Jamie Longworth is close to making his top team breakthrough after notching a brace in a friendly win over the Scottish Amateur select side.
Big things were expected of the 23-year-old striker when he was signed from Kilbirnie Ladeside in the summer.
Longworth was one of the most feared strikers in the junior game and had a number of senior clubs knocking on his door.
But his Spiders breakthrough was delayed as he missed a large chunk of pre-season while on holiday. He fell behind fellow frontmen, Graeme Eaglesham, Craig Smith, Michael Daly and Ian Watt in the first team reckoning.
That looks set to change though as Queen's boss Gardner Speirs this week hinted that the striker could be thrust into action as the Hampden men look to turn round a miserable run of four straight defeats.
Speirs said: "Jamie missed some of our pre-season because of holidays and he has been playing catch up with the guys since.
"The goals he scored the other night were simply just natural finishes and showed me that he has not lost the touch he had at Kilbirnie.
"Jamie scores without thinking and he will be doing that for our first team soon."
