Football highlights
Local football teams, from Swansea FC to Liverpool, have been playing their best in matches up and down the country this week. Whether playing at home or taking the challenge and playing away, we have had more than our fair share of goals and free kicks in this week's local football matches. To catch you up on the best moments of the action, read on. |
A few teams have seen some very exciting action this week, and this is the pick of the bunch.
To begin with, we have Reading FC. This team have seen a successful few weeks, with 2 wins and 1 draw. Not a bad collection for anyone, and especially not for a team who have seen a number of organisational changes (and a home run of losses) in the past few months. They seem to be embracing this change eagerly and successfully, and this run of wins just supports the impression. Saturdays match finally got rid of the embarrassment of giving away that casual goal to Ipswich the other week, and Reading FC certainly had a lot to prove. Leaving Blackpool floundering behind them, the team used Grzegorz Rasiak's goal to push them into the lead, and break that run of bad luck when playing at their home ground. Perfect! |
A similar successful run has been happening for eager welsh team, Swansea City. Having been catapulted into Third place in the Championship table by defender Fede Bessone , the team are enjoy the giddy heights of success. It has been a long time - 26 years to be precise - since Swansea City were doing this well, and this will be a winning streak that they really don't want to break. Their 1-0 win against challengers Derby was just further confirmation on top of previous wins against rivals Cardiff and underdogs Scunthorpe. If they keep this up, Swansea will be the Championship team to watch. |

Scunthorpe's bad month got even worse with yet another loss, in this weeks match against Watford FC. With Heidar Helguson scoring a brace, Watford FC really did go all out to defeat their opposition. Watford FC were always going to be a lively team, with a challenging and driven front 5, but Scunthorpe did somewhat facilitate the win. Excellent play from Watford and some basic lapses in judgment from the Scunthorpe defence resulted in a very poor result from Scunthorpe fans. The fact that Heidar Helhuson was on loan from QPR FC must have just further rubbed salt in the wound. QPR FC must really be hoping he can pull another performance out of the bag when he is back on their side. |
All in all local sides have seen some big wins, and some equally big losses, in this week's football round up. As always, teams have facilitated some excellent goals, and a number of silly errors have been made to let teams such as Swansea City creep ever closer to the top of the table. Truly brilliant football. |
| Yet another week goes by in the battle between the underdogs and the current champions. And only in the world of football can it be so unclear who will come out on top. |
