Eating Out: Pizza Hut

Silverburn, Tel: 880 8833, Web: www.pizzahut.co.uk

When I decided to go to Pizza Hut in Glasgow's Silverburn centre, I realised it had been at least five years since I'd visited one of the chain's restaurants.

Pizza Hut used to be a favourite, but for one reason or another I had not been in a while.

As I approached the restaurant, I was keen to see what changes had been made to the menu and if old favourites were still there.

As we took our seats in the bright and comfy restaurant, I was pleased to see the menu didn't disappoint.

There were still plenty of old classics - a huge range of pizzas, the salad bar and re-fillable soft drinks priced at just £2.10.

But there was also a range of healthy and stylish additions. My eyes were drawn to the new Tuscani pizza which is a super thin, light and crispy pizza base with recipes inspired from the heart of Italy.

There was also a new (to me) selection of fresh smoothies and fruit juices. After briefly agonising over my selection, I opted for a plate of three cheese melts to start (£3.99).

This was a mix of gooey Italianstyle cheeses baked in a light breadcrumb that I mixed with rocket with caramelised onions, chopped tomatoes and a balsamic glaze.

My dining companion also chose a starter that was a little different.

His dish featured fresh Romano peppers stuffed spring vegetable risotto topped with paprika crumb (£3.99).

It was a close call, but he may just have wolfed his starter down quicker than I did.

When it came to our main courses we both couldn't turn down an old favourite - a large pizza with a standard base surrounded by a ring of 28 individual doughy bites filled with cheese.

We selected a super supreme topping and enjoyed a huge mix of flavours including spicy pork, pepperoni, spicy beef, red onions, whole black olives, ham slices, hand-picked mushrooms and mixed peppers (£13.99).

Our main was satisfying and delicious and left just enough space to share a trio of chocolate, lemon and raspberry desserts served in layered shot glasses (£2.99).

I left the restaurant impressed by the mix of old favourites and newer additions and I'm determined not to wait another five years before returning again.
