Must see movies: Shutter Island (15); I Love You Phillip Morris (18)

SHUTTER ISLAND (15) ****

Why we are excited: The lunatics are taking over the asylum, or that's what Martin Scorsese's psychological thriller would have us believe in this 1950s-set mystery.

Plot: US Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his new partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) make the stomach-churning journey by water to Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane with a hurricane closing in on the island. One of the patients has escaped and no one has any idea how she could have disappeared without trace. As the cops interview the staff, Teddy and Chuck begin to sense that something is terribly awry on Shutter Island.

I Love You Phillip Morris (18) ****

Why we are excited: Based on an incredible true story, I LoveYou Phillip Morris charts the improbable romance of two prison inmates and their subsequent journey of self-discovery on both sides of the bars.

Plot: Stephen Russell (Jim Carrey) is happily married, with a beautiful wife, Debbie, and young daughter. However, Stephen has a secret: he is gay. Stephen finally comes out to his wife and moves to Florida. But the cost of living fabulously is too high for Stephen and he breaks the law. He is caught and sentenced to time in prison where he meets Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). The attraction is instant and when Stephen finally gains parole, he poses as a lawyer to get Phillip out of prison.
