THE hospitality of a Glaswegian Smile is known as far afield as St Petersburg, music starlet Shock O Lady has revealed.

But despite Glasgow’s rough tough reputation making it all the way to Russia, the up and coming pop act feels right at home on the streets of the city.

Fresh from performing with 90s pop act Steps at Braehead Arena, Shock O Lady told The Glaswegian that the Dear Green Place will always hold a special place in her heart.

She said: “I’ll tell you frankly, Glasgow is one of my favourite cities.

“I came here for my first ever performance and it was a very warm welcome atmosphere.

“The performance was also my first birthday abroad, so the city is very dear to me.”

Shock O Lady, aka Alla, made the leap into pop and dance music after gaining vocal experience in both jazz and rock.

Her mixed heritage is reflected in her touring partners as she has teamed up with pop acts like Jedward and Steps and rock acts like T Rex.

But despite here excellent vocal training, the rhotic Glaswegian accent initially had her confused.

She said: “I remember the first time I was in Glasgow I was trying to order a muffin and I was trying to explain I wanted a chocolate one, but I couldn’t understand the waiter!

“I love the accent though, all those ‘rrrs’”

When performing at Braehead with Steps, Shock O Lady said it was a real thrill to perform to thousands of people.

In a few short year she has gone from singing in tiny clubs to venues holding tens of thousands of people such as London’s O2.

But despite her success she still can’t help but dance along in the wings to the catchy beats of Steps.

Though at the minute the singer has no concrete plans to return to Glasgow, she says she hopes she returns soon.

She said: “I want to come back to Glasgow, it kind of feels like home.”
