A FORMER Glasgow footballer has scored another career goal by releasing her first EP.

Sharon Martin, 26, who played for Glasgow City FC in 1998, wrote eight tracks for Natural High.

The rising star, from Clarkston, previously released the single City of Dreams to help her old team realise their Women’s Champions League ambitions.

The song has since hit No30 in the iTunes singer-song writers’ chart, which is populated by big names such as Adele and Eva Cassidy.

Now Sharon, who still plays five-a-sides, wants to showcase her musical talents.

She said: “I have played in bands since I was 16 years old. I was always a musician but I also love football.

“The songs are part of a collection that I have been writing for 10 years. I have been working with Doug Trantow – an LA-based producer – who mixed one of my tracks. He has worked with big names such as Tracy Chapman and Limp Bizkit.

“I want to show people what I’m capable of and I really hope they like the songs. The girls at GlasgowCity FC have been really supportive.

Sharon has served her musical apprenticeship with a number of acts. She previously sang with Grammy-winning record producer Stephen Lironi’s electro disco revival FLESH. Before that, Sharon fronted The Kingfishers – comprised of members of The Bluebells, Del Amitri, Deacon Blue and Love and Money.

Her current group are also packed with Scottish talent, who played with Horse, GUN, Complete Stone Roses, Terra Diablo and Finley Quaye.

Sharon said: “The songs are a bit of a mix with a bit of heartfelt acoustic and rock tracks.”
