As winter sets in so does the football
The weather is really starting to get cold in the UK at the moment, so thank goodness the Championship football season is really starting to heat up! QPR, Blackpool FC, Barnsley FC and Middlesbrough are all battling it out to see who has what it takes to take it all the way this season. |
With a somewhat rocky start to their season seemingly out the way, QPR are now really showing spectators and fans alike that they mean business this 2009-10 season and are really exciting to watch. QPR have had a string of wins in the last few weeks and are not looking like they are going to slow down any time soon. Their 2-1 win over Sheffield a couple of weeks ago was the fourth away win in six matches for Jim Magilton's team and it propelled them into fourth place on the Championship table. They now also have the advantage of having QPR sign Peterborough United left-back Tommy Williams on loan until January, which can only continue to improve on their already impressive form.

Following very closely behind their rivals QPR is Blackpool FC who currently sits at the number five spot on the Championship table. Blackpool FC has had a particularly rocky past with the 1980s perhaps being the darkest time in the clubs history. However their luck, skills and their determination all began to change after that time and by 2001 Blackpool FC were back on track and were promoted to the second division of English football. They then again managed to further improve on this in 2007 when they won their League One play-off final and were promoted to the Championship where they have remained ever since. Having recently beaten Scunthorpe 4-1 the confidence of Blackpool FC is high and this will hopefully spur them on to get ahead of QPR if they keep it up.
Another team hoping to really improve on their Championship table position is Middlesbrough FC, who is currently sitting at position number ten and who have recently lost their last few matches to the likes of Crystal Palace and Plymouth. Both of these losses were a little surprising and certainly disappointing for Middlesbrough FC, however there is still time left in this 2009-10 season for them to turn things around. Middlesbrough FC has had little impact on the game in terms of trophies throughout their history, despite the fact that they have spent very little time outside of the top two divisions of English football. Middlesbrough FC was also part of the Premiership during its inaugural season in 1992 and is making every effort to return to it.

At the number fifteen spot of the Championship table at the moment is Barnsley FC who recently drew with rivals Sheffield United in a game that many commentators believed that they should have won. In fact the form of Barnsley FC has been somewhat disappointing for many fans of late with a string of draws and losses marring their upward movements on the Championship table. However considering that Barnsley FC went into administration in 2002 and have managed to bounce back from that and become part of the Championship since 2006 is no mean feat and proves that they have what it takes to turn things around for themselves when they really put their heart and soul into it.
Whether it is one of these Championship teams, or one of the other 20 that make up the Championship table, any one of them is in with a shot for the 2009-10 Championship Cup!
